Since January 2014, Agileana has been serving the English Language Program - a program of the U.S. Department of State (State Department) Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) - through a grant to the Georgetown University Center for Intercultural Education and Development (CIED).

We have been working on a purchase order by purchase order basis with Georgetown University and IIE on behalf of the US Department of State. Together, they operate a system for planning, forecasting, recruiting, evaluating, selecting, onboarding, deploying, managing, and debriefing scholars and English Language Professionals who are deployed around the world. For over seven years, we have helped build an enterprise level, mission critical, information system. We are 100% responsible for the entire technical portion of the contract including design, development, deployment, DevOps, and server management.

Our first task order was to migrate the legacy system, built in Cold Fusion, to Drupal. We were exclusively responsible for the operations, maintenance, management, and improvements of that Drupal system until the functionality of the information system outgrew the capabilities of Drupal. We were forcing Drupal to do things it was not intended to do, like intensive database queries, reporting, and crunching of data.

In 2019, we migrated most of the web application into Symfony, a custom application development framework – the same framework used to build Drupal 8 and 9. A subset of the system remains in Drupal 7 and is in the process of being modernized and replaced. As part of our development approach, we have followed the US Digital Service Playbook, the US Web Design System, and the 21st Century Integrated Digital Experience Act (IDEA).

Our year-after-year renewal of the contract increases in funding ceiling, and series of purchase orders is a testament to our performance and customer satisfaction.
